About me
As GEBG’s Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, Chad Detloff supports member schools around topics such as intercultural dialogue; student action in local, national, and international contexts; climate/sustainability education; classroom curriculum driven by global competencies; and travel program curriculum and risk management. Chad has spoken around the world and written widely on topics related to global education and has worked directly with over 150 schools to collaboratively develop, grow, or assess their initiatives. Prior to working with GEBG, Chad spent ten years as the Director of Global Programs at Chadwick School in Southern California where he led a group of faculty and administrators in creating unique indicators of global citizenship based on the school's mission and vision and developed in-class curricula and travel programming across their campuses in the United States and South Korea that targeted these competencies. Chad has also worked extensively in student-leadership development and has taught a wide array of student-centered, inquiry-based courses in the Humanities and Global Languages over fourteen years teaching in middle-school, high-school, and undergraduate classrooms. Additionally, Chad has significant experience in risk management of overnight-travel programs, specifically in developing policies and procedures, training faculty and staff, and creating comprehensive systems and budgets. Previously Chad taught media and cultural studies and oversaw a university Spanish-language program at the University of Barcelona and has also taught writing at the community-college level. Chad graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College with high honors in Comparative Literature (Spanish and Italian). Beyond his work in global education, Chad has a significant passion for and background in the performing arts and volunteers as the Executive Director of the L.A. Choral Lab, a collaborative dedicated to innovating within the choral music genre particularly through working with living composers and artists of diverse backgrounds and identities.
